China’s Foreign Minister Urges SCO Nations to Deepen Mutual Trust

(MENAFN) China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi has called on members of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) to deepen mutual trust, promote equality, and pursue win-win cooperation as they face intensifying global challenges, according to a statement from the Foreign Ministry on Wednesday.

During his leadership of the SCO Council of Foreign Ministers meeting in Tianjin, Wang highlighted the organization’s founding principles, known as the “Shanghai Spirit,” which emphasize mutual trust, benefit, equality, and consultation. He stressed these values as vital tools for managing a rapidly evolving world characterized by geopolitical tensions and economic volatility.

"The world is becoming more multipolar and economic globalization is deepening, and the global South is growing significantly. At the same time, hegemony and power are going against the trend, protectionism is surging, and regional conflicts are emerging one after another," he said.

Wang urged member states to unite under a shared commitment to strengthen the SCO, emphasizing the need for responsibility both historically and looking forward.

He reflected on the SCO’s progress over its 24-year history, recognizing its role as a crucial stabilizing force and driver of regional development.

Looking ahead, Wang outlined five strategic priorities for the SCO: enhancing security collaboration, fostering inclusive growth, maintaining strong neighborly ties, supporting multilateralism, and upholding global justice.

Wang also revealed that the SCO leaders’ summit is scheduled to take place in Tianjin from August 31 to September 1, anticipating attendance by more than 20 heads of state and leaders from international organizations.

In preparation for this summit, the foreign ministers signed several significant resolutions during the meeting.
