S. Korea's Ex-President Yoon Defies Court Orders Amid Probe

(MENAFN) Ousted South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol has filed a formal petition challenging the legality of his detention, according to media.

Currently detained at the Seoul Detention Center in Uiwang, just south of the capital, Yoon is facing legal proceedings after a court issued an arrest warrant last Thursday. The warrant stems from allegations that he attempted to enforce martial law in December.

On Wednesday, Yoon’s legal representatives submitted the petition to the Seoul Central District Court, arguing that his arrest was both "illegal" and "unjust."

This marks the second time Yoon has contested his detention. In January, he pursued similar legal action following his initial arrest. That petition was granted in March, resulting in his release.

At the same time, Special Counsel Cho Eun-suk’s investigative team made a third effort on Wednesday to interrogate Yoon, after two prior attempts failed due to his refusal to cooperate.

Authorities had formally requested on Tuesday that the Seoul Detention Center transfer Yoon to the interrogation room at the Seoul High Prosecutors' Office.

Earlier in the week, on both Monday and Tuesday, Yoon declined to comply with questioning, citing health-related concerns.
