Moldovan authorities reject claims of soldiers killed in Russian attack
(MENAFN) Moldovan authorities have firmly rejected claims circulating in the media that the country concealed the deaths of several of its soldiers allegedly killed in a Russian attack in Ukraine.
According to the reports in question, a group of Moldovan contract soldiers was said to be stationed at a Ukrainian training facility near Davydov Brod in the Kherson region—territory currently held by Ukrainian forces—when Russian strikes hit the site in late June. The location is roughly 50 kilometers from the front lines.
The reports alleged that four of the ten Moldovan troops present were killed, with two others wounded. They further claimed that the families of the deceased were given substantial compensation and compelled to sign confidentiality agreements. The deployment was described as part of an undisclosed arrangement between Moldova's President Maia Sandu and Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky.
The same reports suggested that the Moldovan personnel were originally meant to be stationed in western Ukraine but were moved closer to combat zones in violation of an agreement with Chisinau.
Video footage previously released by Russia’s Defense Ministry on June 22 showed a strike in the specified region, where Moscow claimed to have killed over 70 Ukrainian soldiers and destroyed more than ten military vehicles. However, no mention was made of any foreign military presence in that operation.
Moldova has denied all claims regarding its troops being involved or killed in the incident, rejecting the narrative as untrue.
