Trump Unveils USD20B Trade Deal with Indonesia
(MENAFN) U.S. President Donald Trump on Tuesday unveiled what he described as a “great” trade agreement with Indonesia, securing a 19% tariff rate as part of the deal. The announcement follows direct talks with Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto.
“Great deal, for everybody, just made with Indonesia. I dealt directly with with (sic) their highly respected President,” Trump posted on social media.
In a separate message, Trump detailed the tariff rate and noted that Jakarta had agreed to boost imports of American goods under the new terms.
According to Trump, Indonesia has committed to purchasing "$15 Billion Dollars in U.S. Energy, $4.5 Billion Dollars in American Agricultural Products, and 50 Boeing Jets," with the assurance that U.S. exports would be “Tariff and Non Tariff Barrier FREE.”
“For the first time ever, our Ranchers, Farmers, and Fishermen will have Complete and Total Access to the Indonesian Market of over 280 million people.”
The deal arrives just two weeks after Trump postponed a key trade deadline originally set for July 9. The White House extended the cutoff to August 1, giving international partners additional time to negotiate or risk facing increased tariffs.
Back in April, White House trade adviser Peter Navarro stated that the administration aimed to finalize “90 deals in 90 days,” a benchmark that has since proven elusive. So far, only the United Kingdom and Vietnam have reached interim trade agreements with the Trump administration, though significant aspects of those deals are still under negotiation.
