Monsoon Rains Claim Over Hundred Lives in India
As per the Emergency Operations Center, the number of fatalities has reached 104.
Additionally, at least 189 individuals have sustained injuries, and 35 are still unaccounted for, following several weeks of intense rainfall across the state of Himachal Pradesh.
The breakdown of casualties reveals that 15 people lost their lives due to "cloudbursts," eight died from "flash floods," while the rest succumbed to incidents such as road mishaps and drowning.
Monsoon showers typically commence across India in June and wind down around September.
The Emergency Operations Center further stated that the torrential rains have also led to the deaths of over 22,690 animals and poultry.
With the region suffering extensive destruction, the state administration has reached out to the central government seeking support.
“We have demanded a special relief package for the state,” stated Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu after his meeting with Indian Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday in Delhi, the national capital.
