Ousted South Korean President Seeks Legal Review of Arrest
The appeal was filed on Wednesday, marking the latest development in a case that has attracted national attention.
Currently, Yoon remains detained at the Seoul Detention Center, situated in the city of Uiwang. His arrest came after a court authorized a detention order last Thursday, linked to allegations that he attempted to declare martial law last December.
The legal petition, presented by Yoon’s defense team at the Seoul Central District Court, argues that his arrest was both "illegal" and "unjust."
This move mirrors a previous effort in January, when Yoon challenged his initial detention. At that time, the judiciary accepted his plea and released him in March.
On the investigative front, Special Counsel Cho Eun-suk’s office made a third effort on Wednesday to interrogate Yoon.
The previous two attempts were unsuccessful due to Yoon’s unwillingness to comply.
Prosecutors had submitted a formal directive on Tuesday to the Seoul Detention Center, located just south of the capital, requesting that Yoon be escorted to the Seoul High Prosecutors' Office for questioning.
However, Yoon resisted appearing for interrogation on both Monday and Tuesday, citing "health issues" as the reason for his refusal.
