Turkish FM calls on Israel to stop destabilizing region
“Our message is clear on both the Gaza and Syria issues: By a lack of peace and stability in the region, we cannot ensure anybody’s security. Israel must abandon its destabilizing policies while there is still time,” Fidan told reporters during a press event in New York.
He emphasized that Israel’s actions pose risks not only to its neighbors but to its own long-term safety.
"This is a situation where everyone is being dragged into the fire. The international community — especially the US, the EU and regional countries — must act with great sensitivity and tell Israel to stop. Otherwise, it is likely that the region will face undesirable consequences,” he said.
Fidan pointed out that while some countries within the region are deeply involved in the situation, others — particularly the United States — also have significant roles to play. He stated that Turkish officials are maintaining consistent dialogue with all relevant parties.
“There is ongoing communication and exchange of information. We are coordinating the developments,” he said.
Referring to recent Israeli strikes in Damascus and broader regional tactics, Fidan said Israel continues to pursue a strategy focused solely on its own security interests. He criticized this approach as one that ignores international norms, the sovereignty and rights of other nations, and the overall territorial integrity of the region.
