House speaker states Musk changed phone number after Trump row
According to Johnson, he had sent Musk a lengthy text explaining the benefits of the massive tax-and-spending bill, only to later discover that Musk had changed his number and never received the message. Johnson expressed his desire to speak with Musk in person, saying he hopes to persuade the billionaire to reconcile with Trump and better understand the administration’s strategy.
Musk, once a close Trump ally during the campaign and early presidency, has been sharply critical of the legislation, which involves increased spending, cuts to social programs, and raising the budget deficit limit. Posting on X earlier this month, Musk warned the bill would “bankrupt the country.”
Trump fired back, joking he might deport Musk to South Africa and suggesting cuts to electric vehicle subsidies could jeopardize Musk’s business interests.
The clash escalated when Musk announced plans to launch a new political movement, the ‘America Party.’ Trump dismissed the move on Truth Social, calling Musk a “TRAIN WRECK” and predicting his political venture would fail, causing “Complete and Total DISRUPTION & CHAOS.”
