Thailand claims Cambodia breached ceasefire agreement
On Tuesday morning, Thailand’s military stated that its forces had respected the ceasefire, while accusing Cambodian troops of launching attacks in multiple areas. Thai Army spokesperson Winthai Suvaree condemned these alleged violations and said Thai forces responded with proportional self-defense measures.
Cambodia rejected these claims. Military spokesperson Maly Socheata insisted that Cambodian forces fully complied with the ceasefire terms.
Following the accusations, military commanders from both sides held talks Tuesday morning, though no details of the discussions have been disclosed yet. A joint border committee meeting is planned for next week.
Both Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet and Thailand’s acting Prime Minister Phumtham Wechayachai affirmed their dedication to achieving a peaceful solution.
The recent clashes resulted in at least 37 deaths, including civilians, and forced hundreds of thousands to flee from border communities. During the ceasefire announcement in Putrajaya, both leaders expressed gratitude to US President Donald Trump and China for helping mediate the agreement. Trump revealed that he leveraged trade negotiations with both countries to encourage de-escalation.
