Trump Refutes Allegations of Cutting Musk’s Government Subsidies
(MENAFN) On Thursday, US President Donald Trump refuted claims suggesting he intends to cripple Elon Musk’s businesses by stripping away government subsidies.
"Everyone is stating that I will destroy Elon's companies by taking away some, if not all, of the large scale subsidies he receives from the US Government. This is not so," Trump declared on Truth Social.
He reiterated his commitment to fostering business growth, stating, "I want Elon, and all businesses within our Country, to THRIVE, in fact, THRIVE like never before," and emphasized that stronger companies would benefit America.
"We are setting records every day, and I want to keep it that way,” he added.
Following Musk’s artificial intelligence firm xAI signing a deal with the Pentagon, White House spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt remarked Wednesday that she believed Trump opposed federal contracts with Musk’s enterprises and noted she would need to discuss possible cancellations with the president.
Trump’s comments arrive amid a heated rift with Musk, which has dissolved their prior cooperation. The conflict revolves around Trump’s tax and domestic policy legislation, which Musk harshly labeled a "disgusting abomination."
Musk has also launched personal attacks on Trump, calling for his impeachment and unveiling plans for a new "America Party."
Despite Musk’s earlier support for Trump’s 2024 campaign and leadership of the Department of Government Efficiency, Trump has threatened to terminate government contracts with Musk’s companies, including SpaceX, citing deep disappointment.
