Trump’s government affirms federal workers have right to share religious beliefs
According to a government-wide memorandum released by the US Office of Personnel Management (OPM), federal agencies are instructed to actively support and safeguard religious expression on the job. The directive outlines that employees may engage in religious activities such as prayer, displaying personal religious items, participating in group worship, and discussing matters of faith with colleagues—without fear of retaliation or bias.
"The memo provides clear guidance to ensure federal employees may express their religious beliefs through prayer, personal items, group gatherings, and conversations without fear of discrimination or retaliation," the OPM emphasized in its statement.
Highlighting the importance of protecting personal faith in professional settings, OPM Director Scott Kupor stated, “Federal employees should never have to choose between their faith and their career.” He added, “This guidance ensures the federal workplace is not just compliant with the law but welcoming to Americans of all faiths. Under President Trumpʼs leadership, we are restoring constitutional freedoms and making government a place where people of faith are respected, not sidelined.”
The memo asserts that public sector workers retain First Amendment protections and civil rights regarding religion. It also makes clear that individuals are permitted to engage in religious conversations, take part in group faith-based events, and visibly showcase religious symbols at their work areas.
