Kim’s Sister Demands US to Recognize North Korea as Nuclear power
Her comments serve as a direct message to Washington that Pyongyang’s strategic position is no longer negotiable.
In a formal statement issued by a news agency on Tuesday, Kim Yo-jong, who holds the title of vice department director within the party’s Central Committee, emphasized that any forthcoming discussions must begin with “the recognition of the irreversible position of the DPRK as a nuclear weapons state.”
She stressed that the relationship once cultivated between her brother and US President Donald Trump should not be misused as a lever to pressure North Korea into abandoning its nuclear arsenal.
Kim also noted that the dynamics have significantly evolved since the first phase of US-North Korea diplomacy during Trump’s previous term.
She highlighted that both Pyongyang’s strategic capabilities and its broader geopolitical surroundings “have radically changed,” and these factors must be taken into account before any new diplomatic initiative is considered.
She firmly warned that any attempt to dismiss or ignore these developments “will be thoroughly rejected.”
At the same time, she acknowledged the risks of escalation, remarking that “it is by no means beneficial to each other for the two countries possess[ing] nuclear weapons to go in a confrontational direction.”
Still, she reiterated North Korea’s determination to protect what she described as its current national status, adding that the country “is open to any option in defending its present national position.”
