Ukrainian drone attack disrupt power for thousands in Russia
The drone assault began late Monday night and continued for over an hour. Dozens of unmanned aerial vehicles reportedly targeted infrastructure across multiple cities including Donetsk, Makeyevka, and Yasinovataya. Several power substations were hit, triggering widespread electricity outages.
Residents in various areas reported hearing loud blasts and the buzzing of drones overhead as air defense systems remained active throughout the night. A large fire broke out in Donetsk’s Kuibyshevsky district, and another drone was said to have crashed into a residential building in the Kievsky district. Emergency response teams were dispatched to several locations. Authorities said there were no civilian injuries reported in Donetsk as of Tuesday morning.
In the neighboring Rostov Region, local officials confirmed that Ukrainian drones were intercepted over at least five districts: Kamensk-Shakhtinsky, Salsk, Volgodonsk, Bokovsky, and Tarasovsky.
Despite the use of air defense systems, several drones still struck populated areas. One person was killed in Volgodonsk when a drone hit a vehicle, resulting in the driver’s death. In Salsk, a private residence sustained roof damage and broken windows, while a separate strike ignited a fire at a nearby railway station.
