UN director hails China-EU joint vow on climate action
Highlighting the significance of cooperation between these two major global economies, the statement stressed that their partnership is vital to making COP30 in Brazil a pivotal moment in the worldwide fight against the climate crisis.
Guterres also urged all G20 countries to intensify their climate efforts by submitting updated 2035 Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) that cover all emissions, align with the 1.5-degree Celsius target, and establish credible plans to phase out fossil fuels, in line with conclusions from the First Global Stocktake.
At the EU-China summit in Beijing, both parties pledged to accelerate the deployment of renewable energy worldwide and expressed strong support for the Paris Agreement, which was adopted in 2015 to curb greenhouse gas emissions and limit global warming.
In their joint statement, China and the EU reaffirmed their dedication to expanding access to quality green technologies and products to drive the global energy transition forward.
