Over dozen House Democrats ink letter calling on Trump to recognize Palestinian state
The letter also referenced French President Emmanuel Macron’s recent commitment to recognizing Palestine at the upcoming UN meeting in September, a move that Rubio has strongly opposed.
The lawmakers encouraged other nations that have yet to recognize Palestine, including the United States, to follow suit.
Representative Ro Khanna, who is spearheading the effort, noted that outreach began just last week and has received a strong positive response. He explained that recognition would involve adopting the Arab League’s 22-state plan, which calls for the establishment of a Palestinian state alongside recognition of Israel as a Jewish democratic state.
Khanna highlighted that over 147 countries have already recognized Palestine, stressing, “We cannot be isolated from the rest of the free world.”
