Trump claims data on jobs were ‘rigged’
“I believe today’s job report was rigged to make Republicans, and me, look bad—just like the suspiciously strong numbers right around the 2024 election,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.
He pointed to a sharp downward revision made after the election, noting that over 818,000 jobs were subtracted from earlier estimates on November 15, calling it a “total scam.”
Trump also announced that he has ordered the removal of Erika McEntarfer, the commissioner of labor statistics, blaming her for allegedly producing false numbers. He referred to her as a political appointee from the Biden administration.
The Labor Department reported on Friday that the US economy added just 73,000 jobs in July, falling well short of the projected 106,000. It also revised previous figures for the past two months downward, subtracting a combined 258,000 jobs.
