Syrian interior officials accuse Druze of breaking truce
In a statement issued Sunday afternoon, the authorities described the involved groups as “rebel gangs,” accusing them of attempting to plunge the province into chaos driven by “personal motives of their leaders.” They claimed these factions used the ceasefire to conceal abusive actions.
The terms “rebel gangs” or “outlawed groups,” as used by officials, typically refer to the Druze fighters engaged in the ongoing conflict.
The statement confirmed that several internal security posts across multiple locations came under attack, with government forces responding to reestablish control.
At the same time, a Britain-based monitoring organization reported renewed fighting on the strategic Tal Hadid front in Sweida’s western countryside. There, government troops launched a counteroffensive after local Druze groups had previously taken control of the hilltop.
