Pilgrim Bus, Train Collide in Russia
The bus, which was transporting 36 people en route to the Alexander Svirsky Monastery in the Leningrad Region, became involved in the mishap as it entered a railway crossing just as a freight train was nearing.
This occurred while the stop lights were actively warning, as reported.
As stated by the Russian Railways press division, the train operator tried to apply the brakes, but a crash was inevitable.
The train collided with the rear end of the bus.
Thankfully, none of the train cars were derailed. Two young passengers on the bus were unharmed.
Authorities have initiated a formal inquiry into the incident.
In a related case from December, a similar tragedy unfolded in Russia’s Murmansk Region, where two individuals perished and 45 others were injured after a freight train suffered a malfunction and smashed into a double-decker passenger train that had 326 travelers on board.
