Main suspects in 2024 terror attack plead guilty

(MENAFN) The four main suspects in the deadly 2024 terrorist attack at Moscow’s Crocus City Hall have pleaded guilty during the initial closed-door session of their trial, according to Russian media reports.

Lyudmila Aivar, a legal representative for the victims, told TASS on Monday that the defendants – Shamsidin Fariduni, Dalerdzhon Mirzoev, Muhammadsobir Fayzov, and Saidakrami Murodali Rachabalizoda – admitted their roles in the attack and offered apologies to those affected.

Sources cited by RBK noted that both Fariduni and Mirzoev fully confessed, while Rachabalizoda admitted involvement in a terrorist group but denied participating in the assault itself.

Fayzov reportedly claimed he had been manipulated due to his young age, saying others misled him and derailed his life plans. According to Aivar, eight of the 15 total suspects in the case partially confessed, while the remaining seven rejected all accusations.

The trial is being conducted in secret due to the presence of classified information.

The Crocus City Hall massacre occurred on March 22, 2024, when armed assailants stormed the venue just before a concert, opening fire on concertgoers and setting the building ablaze. The attack left 149 people dead and over 600 injured, marking Russia’s deadliest terrorist incident in decades.

Authorities captured several suspects, including the four main attackers, shortly after the incident. President Vladimir Putin described the perpetrators as “radical Islamists,” stating they were intercepted while trying to escape toward Ukraine.

Responsibility was claimed by ISIS-K (Islamic State Khorasan Province), a regional affiliate of the Islamic State group. Ukraine has denied any involvement.

In June, Russia’s Investigative Committee concluded the attack was orchestrated to destabilize the country in a way that would benefit Ukraine.
