Trump Visits Britain to Advance Fresh Trade, Security Deals
(MENAFN) U.S. President Donald Trump landed in London Tuesday evening, marking his second official state visit to the United Kingdom, with a clear agenda to push forward fresh trade and security deals despite widespread public opposition.
Buckingham Palace confirmed that King Charles III, Queen Camilla, and Prime Minister Keir Starmer will receive Trump and First Lady Melania Trump at Windsor Castle on Wednesday. The following day, Trump is set to engage in a bilateral discussion with Starmer at Chequers, the prime minister’s rural retreat.
On Tuesday night, nearly 100 protesters from Windsor and across Britain, mobilized by the "Stop Trump Coalition," demonstrated outside Windsor Castle. Chanting slogans and holding signs reading "Stop Hate, Stop Trump" and "Hate Never Made Any Nation Great," the group voiced strong resistance to the visit. Organizers announced plans for a larger rally in central London on Wednesday.
In anticipation of the visit, the British government disclosed over £1.25 billion (approximately $1.7 billion) in private American investments targeted at the financial services sector and revealed intentions to finalize a new nuclear energy agreement during Trump’s stay.
According to British media, discussions between the U.S. and UK delegations will focus on cutting-edge technologies, including artificial intelligence, semiconductors, telecommunications, and quantum computing.
This visit follows Trump’s private trip to Scotland two months ago, where he also met with Starmer and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen—an event similarly marked by substantial protests.
