Presidential aide says Moscow is still willing for Putin-Trump talks

(MENAFN) Moscow has indicated its willingness to arrange a potential meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and U.S. President Donald Trump, according to presidential aide Yury Ushakov.

When asked on Monday about the possible timing of such talks, Ushakov declined to provide any specific date, saying, “There is no timetable yet, but there is a fundamental readiness to hold a meeting if it is prepared in advance by experts.”

Responding to whether the summit could still take place before the end of the year, Ushakov said, “I don’t know,” while noting that the previous Putin-Trump summit in Alaska in August had been organized on short notice.

Earlier this month, Trump proposed holding a new meeting with Putin in Budapest, Hungary.

Moscow expressed its openness to the idea, but the proposal was later withdrawn by the U.S. president, who said it “didn’t feel like we were going to get to the place we have to get,” and instead urged for an immediate cessation of hostilities along the Russia-Ukraine front lines.

This marked a notable shift in Trump’s tone. He had earlier advocated for a comprehensive peace deal to end the conflict, rather than a temporary truce — an approach Moscow has consistently supported, emphasizing its desire for a lasting resolution.

Meanwhile, Kyiv and its Western partners have continued to push for an immediate ceasefire, asserting their readiness to begin one at any moment. Russian officials, however, have expressed skepticism toward such proposals, suggesting that they could serve as an opportunity for Ukraine to rebuild its forces and secure additional weaponry from its allies.
