Trump states US Constitution bans him from running for third term
“It’s a very interesting thing. I have the best numbers for any president in many years,” Trump said aboard Air Force One en route to South Korea. “And I would say that, if you read it, it’s pretty clear.
I’m not allowed to run. It’s too bad. But we have a lot of great people.”
The comments came after Trump was asked about statements from congressional leaders suggesting there is no path to amend the Constitution to permit a third term. The 22nd Amendment explicitly limits US presidents to two terms in office, barring any additional runs.
