Bank of Japan Holds Policy Rate at 0.5 Percent

(MENAFN) The Bank of Japan (BOJ) kept its benchmark interest rate unchanged Thursday, concluding a two-day policy meeting with a cautious stance as officials gauge the potential fallout from U.S. trade measures and the direction of Japan’s new government.

The nine-member policy board voted to maintain the short-term rate at roughly 0.5 percent, extending a run of six consecutive meetings without adjustment. Analysts said the decision reflects the central bank’s need for additional time to align policy with Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi’s incoming administration.

BOJ Governor Kazuo Ueda is expected to hold a press conference later Thursday to outline the reasoning behind the bank’s steady policy approach and offer updates on the economic and inflation outlook.
