Cross-Border Clash Leaves One Dead in Cambodia
Cambodia’s Foreign Ministry "condemned in strongest term the unprovoked shooting by Thai forces against Cambodian civilians in Prey Chan village, Banteay Meanchey province, in late afternoon of 12 November 2025, resulting in one civilian killed and three others injured."
The ministry emphasized that this event "represents a serious violation of Cambodia's sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as a grave breach of international humanitarian law and the fundamental principles of the United Nations Charter, ASEAN Charter and the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia (TAC)," noting that a formal protest had been submitted to Thailand.
Following the clash, Cambodian authorities evacuated hundreds of villagers from Prey Chan, a provincial spokesperson, Norng Vuthy, told reporters on Thursday, as reported by a news agency.
The Royal Thai Army refuted claims that its forces conducted "unprovoked shooting," asserting instead that Cambodian troops had "fired weapons into Thai territory."
According to the Thai army’s statement on the US social media platform Facebook, their forces "took cover and returned fire toward the source using only necessary force in accordance with rules of engagement to suppress the incident, protect national sovereignty, and ensure personnel safety."
Meanwhile, Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul stated on Wednesday that he would manage the situation "his way," including whether to inform Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, highlighting that all four commitments are currently suspended, as reported by a media outlet.
