Ukraine begins joint production of interceptor drones with US—Zelensky

(MENAFN) Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy revealed that Kyiv has started joint production of interceptor drones with the United States, describing the initiative as crucial as the country faces growing financial and battlefield pressures.

“American-Ukraine production, co-production,” Zelenskyy said in an interview with Bloomberg Television late Wednesday. “I hope that in future we will have more.”

The program is intended to bolster Ukraine’s air-defense capabilities and address delays in external military assistance.

Zelenskyy also urged European Union members to resolve internal disagreements over the use of frozen Russian assets. “I hope, God bless, we will get this decision,” he said, adding that without access to these funds, “we will have to find an alternative, it’s a question of our surviving.”

The EU has delayed a decision until December on whether to utilize frozen Russian assets to issue loans totaling $150 billion. Zelenskyy argued that these proceeds could help Kyiv acquire additional Western air-defense systems and expand domestic drone production. “We don’t have additional money and this is the way — and this is fair,” he said.

He also noted that President Donald Trump controls “more than $5 billion of assets” belonging to Russia in the United States and suggested that taking action could “send a good signal” to European partners.

Russia has warned it would take severe retaliatory measures if the EU moves forward with plans to transfer its frozen assets to Ukraine.
