Libre Party Urges Election Nullification

(MENAFN) Honduras’ governing Libre Party on Sunday urged that the nationwide elections be voided, asserting that US President Donald Trump interfered in the nation’s democratic process and that the opposition engaged in electoral misconduct.

A week after citizens cast their ballots — and three days following the third suspension of result disclosures by electoral officials — Libre, the political organization of current President Xiomara Castro, dismissed the preliminary outcomes that position conservative, Trump-endorsed contender Nasry Asfura as the president-elect.

“Libre does not recognize the elections held under the interference and coercion of United States President Donald Trump and the allied oligarchy that have struck the Honduran people with an ongoing electoral coup," declared a party communiqué distributed on social networks.

Following the halt of updates from the Preliminary Electoral Results Transmission (TREP), the rapid-results system, Asfura preserved an advantage with 1.13 million votes, surpassing Salvador Nasralla of the Liberal Party, who collected 1.11 million.

The administration’s nominee, Rixi Moncada, trailed significantly with only 543,675 votes, representing 19.3%.

“It is ordered to request the total annulment of the elections and to demand an investigation into the acts of electoral terrorism carried out through the TREP transmission system, as reported in the 26 audio recordings," the communiqué stated.

Libre pointed to unauthorized access and tampering with the TREP source code, discrepancies in 95.17% of reported tallies, 4,659 records lacking biometric confirmation, and recurrent failures of the results website as key irregularities and system breakdowns that reinforce its accusations of fraud.
