Israeli Forces Maintain Iran Offensive Despite Trump’s Comments on Talks

(MENAFN) The Israeli military confirmed Monday that it will continue operations against Iran, despite US President Donald Trump’s statements regarding “productive talks” with Tehran.

"We will continue our operations in Iran according to the directives of the political leadership until further instructions are received," the army said in a statement, according to reports.

Trump, however, announced a five-day postponement of all planned strikes on Iranian power plants and energy infrastructure, citing “very good and productive” discussions with Iranian officials over the past two days.

“I am pleased to report that the United States of America and the country of Iran have had, over the last two days, very good and productive conversations regarding a complete and total resolution of our hostilities in the Middle East,” Trump said on his social media platform Truth Social.

Meanwhile, Israeli opposition figure Avigdor Lieberman urged the government to continue its military campaign in Iran, even if the US were to step back from the conflict.

Regional tensions have intensified since the joint US-Israel offensive began on February 28, resulting in more than 1,340 casualties, including the former Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.

Tehran has responded with drone and missile attacks targeting Israel as well as Jordan, Iraq, and Gulf nations hosting US forces, causing both human casualties and infrastructure damage, while disrupting global markets and air travel.
